With growing amounts of legislation requiring ever stricter adherence to environmental dust limits and emission restrictions, more and more plant operators have had to install bagfilters or other dust capture equipment. In many instances the captured dust is transferred using pneumatic conveying presenting the problem of a reliable and efficient air lock on the discharge. 
 
The consequence of bottom leakage are numerous and include re-entrainment of dust, upward air flow preventing dust ejection from the filter, reduced bag life due to higher than expected dust burden and high energy usage because of repeat filtering and high pressure drop across bags. 
 
The double flap valve being the only true airlock in these instances can offer considerable returns on investment by protecting the capital equipment and reducing operational costs.

Rotary Valve Replacement 
 
Accumulations of dust around the failed shaft seals on rotary valves are a common sight. Environmental inspectors are putting increasing pressure on operators to eliminate these hazards. European Gate Valves Double Flap Valves have no such problems and have successfully overcome these issues. 
 
Where customers have existing installations with rotary valves which have failed to deliver on efficiency or life expectancy European Gate Valves offer a full site assessment and design service to enable the transition to a Double Flap Valve solution. 
 
Generally the Double Flap valve is taller than a rotary valve of comparable throughput capacity and modifications to hoppers, chutes and pipework may be necessary. European Gate Valves will work with the customer to ensure that the full benefit of the Return on Investment is seen.
